Chapter 1
New in Town

The coffee shop's back room smelled like burnt espresso and nervous energy. Shawn pushed through the curtain to find maybe fifteen people scattered across mismatched furniture—some in leather, some in cardigans, one guy in a Zelda t-shirt. A woman with silver-streaked hair and a name tag reading "HAVEN" looked up from her clipboard.
"Fresh meat," she said, not unkindly. Please don't be one of the creepy ones. Please.
The guy beside her—rope coiled over his shoulder like a badge—grinned. "First munch?" Garrett's eyes did a quick inventory. Decent build. Shame if he's vanilla-curious.
A woman in a leather jacket leaned back in her chair, boots kicked up on the table. Bex didn't look up from her phone. "Garrett, you have three seconds before you start explaining the difference between SSC and RACK to someone who didn't ask."
Haven snorted. She extended a hand toward Shawn. "Ignore them. You picked a good night—we've got a demo later if you're interested. Shibari basics." Her smile was warm, but her eyes were assessing. "So. What brings you to our little den of perverts?"
"Oh that's fun." Shawn shifted his weight. "I'm new in town but not to the life, just looking to get my bearings really."
Haven's expression shifted—relief, mostly. Thank god. Someone who won't need the 'consent is sexy' speech from scratch. "Well, you came to the right place. We're pretty chill here." She gestured around the room. "Mix of everything—rope, impact, service dynamics, a few lifestyle folks."
Garrett leaned forward, that coiled rope sliding down his arm. "Yeah, so like, the scene here is pretty different from bigger cities. More community-focused, you know? We do a lot of education, workshops—" Wonder what he's into. Bet I could show him some advanced ties.
"Garrett." Haven's voice had an edge of fond exasperation. "Let the man breathe."
Bex finally looked up, one eyebrow raised. Her gaze was direct, unapologetic. Experienced. Good. Means he won't be weird about boundaries. "What brought you to our charming little town? Work? Witness protection?"
